Shin Megami Tensei IV Final: website update, details on Smirk

Shin Megami Tensei IV FinalOn Saturday, Shin Megami Tensei IV Final was showcased during a second livestream on NicoNico. If you missed it, you can check out several recordings of the gameplay sections (along with the “Image Anime”, showing the fall of Tokyo) by clicking here. Atlus should uploaded the full thing on YouTube within the next couple of weeks, just like last time.

And today, Atlus updated the official website, with contents showcased during the livestream. There’s Nozomi (a “new” character, and one of your partners in the game), the demon Danuu, some costumes, and more. We also get more details about the Smirk feature, which is back in Shin Megami Tensei IV Final.

It works just like in Shin Megami Tensei IV: if one your attack is a critical hit, then you have a chance of receiving the Smirk status. This status boosts your attack power, your chances of landing critical hits, and your hit rate. It also removes the weakness of the characters with Smirk, prevent enemies from landing critical hits on them, and boost their evasion rate. All of that lasts until the next (active) turn. If all your characters are smirking, they will get back 50% of their HP and MP.

But in Shin Megami Tensei IV Final, the Smirk status also activates the additional effect of certain skills. Magic attacks can also become critical hits and be effective even if the target isn’t weak to their elements. Finally, we learn that demons who manage to ambush you will start the battle with the Smirk status.

Finally, here’s the screencaps from the official website:

Shin Megami Tensei IV Final (3DS) comes out on February 10th in Japan.
