Rune Factory 4 Best Collection and Rune Factory 4 Platinum Collection releasing in October in Japan

Rune Factory originally began as a spin-off of the Harvest Moon series (now known as Story of Seasons in the west), but evolved into its very own, separate series. The latest entry is Rune Factory 4, released on Nintendo 3DS in July 2012 (in Japan), ended up as the best-selling entry, with over 250 000 units sold in Japan alone.

Unfortunately, ever since Neverland Co. (its developers) went bankrupt, in December 2013, the series has been in hiatus, and fans have been wondering about the future of the series. Marvelous has already confirmed that the series would continue, but we still haven’t heard anything about a new entry. All we know is that plenty of former developers from Neverland Co. are now working at Marvelous.

In the mean time, Marvelous wants to make sure people don’t completely forget about the series, which is why we got some collaboration DLC in Harvest Moon: Trio of Towns. But that’s not all: Rune Factory 4 is also getting a re-release in October in Japan.

Marvelous will release the following:

  • Rune Factory 4 Best Collection (2 980 Yen + taxes): basically, a budget re-release of the game, without any extras;
  • Rune Factory 4 Platinum Collection (6 980 Yen): a special pack including Rune Factory 4 Best Collection and a copy of… Rune Factory 3. Yes, the Nintendo DS game! Also includes a soundtrack CD for both games, simply called “Rune Factory 4 & Rune Factory 3” for now.

Naturally, the copy of Rune Factory 3 is for the Nintendo DS (it’s not a Nintendo 3DS port), and is exactly identical to the one released back in 2009. Also, since the Nintendo Wifi Connection has ended, some features will not be available.

Here’s the boxart for the Best Collection, and an illustration for the Platinum Collection:

Finally, here’s a trailer for the collection:

Rune Factory 4 Best Collection and Rune Factory 4 Platinum Collection will both be released on October 26th in Japan. Unfortunately, a western release for either editions is extremely unlikely… though this would be a good opportunity for Europe to finally get a retail version of the game! The Upcoming Releases page has been updated.
