Pokémon Gold and Silver also getting retail release in Japan, but with goodies

Earlier today, Nintendo of Europe announced that the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console release of Pokémon Gold and Silver would also be available at retail (alongside the Nintendo eShop). Unfortunately, there’s nothing in the box: just a download code and… that’s it. No goodies like there was in Japan for the retail release of Pokémon Red Version / Blue Version / Green Version / Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition.

Exactly one hour later, The Pokémon Company made an announcement for Japan, and confirmed that Pokémon Gold and Silver would indeed get a retail release in that region. But unlike Europe, the box will come with some goodies. Here’s everything that can be found inside:

  • a download card for Pokémon Gold or Pokémon Silver
  • a Pokémon Gold or Pokémon Silver magnet, shaped like an actual GameBoy Color cartridge
  • a set of stickers (a different one for each version)
  • a poster with all the Pokémon from Johto region, but also a chart with the various types
  • a box shaped like an original Japanese GameBoy Color box

Here’s pictures of the contents of the retail package, that costs 1 389 Yen:

And of course, downloads cards will also be available for purchase in stores:

Unfortunately, we still don’t know if North America is also getting a retail release or not…

Pokémon Gold and Silver (3DS – Virtual Console) comes out on September 22nd worldwide. The Upcoming Games page has been updated!
