Xenoblade Chronicles 3D: more gameplay details and another story trailer

Thanks to a new preview, published on Nintendo World Report, we now have more info on Xenoblade Chronicles 3D’s gameplay. As mentionned in previous previews, you select battle commands via the D-Pad, which can be a bit off-putting at first. The game makes full use of the New Nintendo 3DS extra-buttons, which does make sense, as it’s an exclusive.

For example, the ZL buttons allows you to get more precise control of the camera, on top of the C-Stick. As for the ZR button, it allows you to have the map pop up on the screen. As for the touchscreen, its use seems rather minimal, though it does provide you with useful information like character stats and a mini-map.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D has a brand new feature called Collection Mode, where you can collect music and 3D models of characters, enemies and monsters. To unlock those, you need to progress through the story, then buy them using tokens. There is several ways to get hold of those precious tokens:

– you get 3 for scanning the Shulk amiibo
– you get 2 with every player you meet via StreetPass
– you get 1 by using 5 Play Coins

There’s a catch though: you need to spend 3 coins to be sure to get something new.

And now, here’s the new story trailer uploaded early in the morning by Nintendo of America:

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (New 3DS) comes out on April 2nd in Japan and Europe, and April 10th in North America.
