Nintendo: Wii U Chat (worldwide) and Nintendo TVii (Japan) to be discontinued on November 8th

Earlier today, Nintendo announced that Miiverse would be discontinued on November 8th, and all related services terminated on the same day. But it’s not the only one that will be shut down: Wii U Chat and Nintendo TVii (Japan-only) also will!

Wii U Chat

Wii U Chat is a service that allowed two Wii U users to use video chat without any extra equipment: just the GamePad, an internet connection, and… that’s it. Since it cannot be used while in-game, this service didn’t really enjoy widespread use, and was quickly forgotten by everyone. At most, people played with it a few minutes when first using their Wii U, never to tap the icon ever again after that.

At the very least, Wii U Chat gave us this legendary video, featuring the late Satoru Iwata and Reggie Fils-Aimé!

And today, Nintendo announced that the Wii U Chat service would be discontinued on November 8th, at the following time:

  • Europe: 7AM
  • UK: 6AM
  • North America (ET): 1AM
  • North America (PT): 10PM (November 7th)
  • Japan: 3PM

Once the service has been terminated, you will get an error message when trying to launch Wii U Chat, with the following Error Code: 102-2882.

Nintendo TVii (Japan)

Nintendo TVii was discontinued more than two years ago in North America, but it’s still going on in Japan… not for much longer, though! Nintendo announced today that the Nintendo TVii service would be discontinued on November 8th, at the following time:

  • Europe: 7AM
  • UK: 6AM
  • North America (ET): 1AM
  • North America (PT): 10PM (November 7th)
  • Japan: 3PM

Once the service has been terminated, you will get an error message when trying to launch Nintendo TVii, with the following Error Code: 102-2882.

A quick reminder: the Nintendo TVii in Japan was quite different from the North American version: it was more like an interactive TV guide. But the most unique version of Nintendo TVii is obviously the European one, because… it was never launched.
