The Super Mario Bros. Movie grosses over 13.39 billion Yen in Japan

Toho (the Japanese distributor) has sent a new press release to share some more details about the performance of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in Japan. The company announced that the movie has now grossed over 13.39 billion Yen (roughly $94,860,00) in the country. It is now the second most successful foreign animated movie of all time in Japan!

And that’s not all: the movie is now the 14th most successful animated movie (foreign and Japanese) and the 25th most successful movie ever in the country.

  • 2nd most successful western animated movie (was ranked #3 as of July 18th)
  • 14th most successful animated movie (western + Japanese) (was ranked #15 as of July 18th)
  • 25th most successful movie (was ranked #26 as of July 18th)

  • Last week-end (July 28th to July 30th): 84,255,780 Yen / $596,907 grossed, and 63,405 tickets sold
  • LTD: 13,392,604,740 Yen / $94,879,373 grossed, and 9,389,608 tickets sold

Worldwide, the Super Mario Bros. Movie has now grossed $135,413,680 as of July 30th, making it the 15th highest grossing movie of all time.
