Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: discontinuation of Regular Tourneys on Sept. 30th

Have you been enjoying the Regular Tourneys in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U? If yes, you might want to go and participate in one pretty soon, because they will be discontinued at the end of the month. Indeed, Nintendo did announce, earlier this week, that Regular Tourneys would be discontinued on September 30th. After that date, nothing at all will appear in the Regular Tourney schedule.

Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn’t explain why Regular Tourneys will be discontinued.. we can only guess! However, the company does mention that this discontinuation will not impact all Tourneys, just the Regular Tourneys (official ones, created by Nintendo).

Players will still be able to create their own Tourneys, or join those of other players, even after September 30th. We can assume they will be able to do so until Nintendo quite simply cut off online services for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U altogether (which is most definitely not happening any time soon!).

Here’s the message in full:

Discontinuation of Regular Tourneys

As of 30th September 2016, the Regular Tourneys feature found in the Tourneys menu during online play will be discontinued. After this, nothing will appear in the Regular Tourney schedule. We apologise for the inconvenience and ask for your understanding.

Please note that you will still be able to create your own tourneys in the Tourneys menu.

We hope you continue to enjoy playing Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
