Steel Diver: Sub Wars – Online play officially discontinued

If you played Steel Diver: Sub Wars even once these past few months, you may have noticed that online play for the game is currently unavailable. And it’s not just an issue on your end: that feature has been undergoing emergency maintenance since September 14th 2023. Unfortunately, Nintendo has just confirmed that it will not return: as of February 14th 2024, online play for the game is officially discontinued.

Nintendo never really explained why servers for that game were brought offline in the first place. More than likely, it was due to some exploit (like the one that impacted Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 on Wii U last year) or some other technical problem.

What we do know is that the Nintendo developers were not able to find a way to fix the issue, and with online services for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games to be discontinued on April 8th/9th, it looks like the company simply decided to pull the plug on online play for that game early.

First released on February 14th 2014, Steel Diver: Sub Wars offered online play with 4 vs 4 battles. Those are still available via local wireless, if you ever feel like it!
