Nintendo to stop repairs for the Nintendo 2DS XL and the Nintendo Classic Mini consoles

After several models of Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS earlier this year, Nintendo has announced that repairs for the last remaining model, the Nintendo 2DS XL, will soon come to an end in Japan.

In the near future, Nintendo will stop repairs for the New Nintendo 2DS XL due to a lack of spare parts. As for when exactly they will stop, the company specifies that it will depend on how long its remaining stock of spare parts lasts. In other words: if you need to have your New Nintendo 2DS XL repaired, don’t wait before sending it to Nintendo!

Also, Nintendo specifies that all colours of New Nintendo 2DS XL (model number JAN-001) are impacted. The company will notify users of the status of repairs on the product page of the console on their Support website.

But that’s not all: Nintendo has also announced that repairs for the two Nintendo Classic Mini consoles will end soon in Japan:

  • the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System (model number CLV-101, known as Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer in Japan)
  • the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (model number CLV-301, known as Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom in Japan)

Just like for the Nintendo 3DS models, this announcement is due to a lack of spare parts. Again, don’t wait before contacting Nintendo if your Nintendo Classic Mini is in need of repairs, or you will have to go through a third-party service if you wait too long and Nintendo runs out of spare parts before you contact them.

The repair service regulations for each product stipulate that Nintendo will stock spare parts of repairs for a certain amount of time following release. Once that period ends, the company is no longer obligated to offer repairs, which is why no more spare parts are ordered and those inevitable ends up running out. As always, it’s important to be proactive and not wait until there’s no more spare parts to send your console or accessories for repairs!
