Nintendo Investor Briefing: only Wii U and Nintendo 3DS at E3 2015

Back in March, when Project NX was announced (code name for a new dedicated gaming platform), Satoru Iwata made it clear than it would only be properly revealed in 2016. Yet, many are those hoping to get some new details before next year, and this includes an investor who asked a question during the Financial Results Meeting on Friday.

He asked if the “N” of NX stood for Nintendo, but Satoru Iwata replied that Nintend is not planning to give any specifics about the NX until 2016. This includes what the platform is about, or when it will go on sale. For Nintendo, NX is a brand new concept, and not just a “simple replacement” for the Nintendo 3DS or the Wii U.

The reason why the new platform was announced so early is to make sure that nobody was confused by the alliance with DeNA. Satoru Iwata didn’t want anyone to believe that it meant Nintendo was moving away from traditional gaming platforms.

Also, Satoru Iwata confirmed that E3 2015 will only be about Wii U and Nintendo 3DS: there will be no announcement regarding the NX, Nintendo mobile games or even the Quality of Life platform. After all, E3 isn’t really the place for such announcements, since it’s (mostly) about dedicated gaming platforms.

In other words, Nintendo won’t “celebrate” the 20th anniversary of E3 by revealing its new platform, showing its mobile games or showcasing its Quality of Life platform!
