Here’s the latest sales reports from Famitsu and Media Create, with Hardware and Software sales for Week 41, 2021 in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea!
Famitsu (Week 41)
Week 41 was a pretty important week for the Nintendo Switch, what with the launch of the Nintendo Switch OLED model and Metroid Dread.
Software-wise, the biggest release of the week is none other than Metroid Dread with about 86 000 units sold. Make sure to check out this post for our comments and additional info about this game!
The other entry this week is Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, which sold 9 513 units sold at retail alone. A fairly decent performance for an indie release at retail. Unlike Europe and North America, the digital and physical releases were simultaneous in Japan, which no doubt helped sales (along with the low price of the retail package, which does include some extras).
This week, some of the usual evergreen titles made their comeback in the Top 10 Software thanks to the release of the Nintendo Switch OLED model. But there’s one game that saw a bigger increase than all others: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with +53%, no doubt helped by the announcement of the final DLC character (Sora from the Kingdom Hearts series).
No noteworthy milestone this week, though WarioWare: Get It Together is about to reach 150 000 units sold at retail alone (144 966 units sold as of this week).

This week, Nintendo Switch sales saw a big jump thanks to the release of the Nintendo Switch OLED model. More details about launch sales in this post!
Last year, the Nintendo Switch sold 108 575 units during the same week, but thanks to the launch of the Nintendo Switch OLED model, 2021 did even better (and by a wide margin). However, that great performance isn’t enough to compensate for the Year on Year drop these past few weeks. So far, the Nintendo Switch has sold 4 084 965 units this year, as opposed to 4 153 753 units last year as of Week 41.
Quite interestingly, the OG and Lite models were not negatively impacted by the launch of the OLED model… quite the opposite! Their sales actually went slightly up this week, with 8 650 units for the Lite model, and 32 792 units for the OG model.
Considering the OLED model is severely supply-constrained, it’s hard to gauge whether it’s going to replace either “old” models any time soon. At the very least, a non-negligible amount of users are more than happy with the OG and Lite models. This would imply that a fair number of the 138 409 units of the Nintendo Switch OLED model sold at launch were bought by people upgrading to the latest model.
One thing’s for sure though: whether or not 2021 sales are ever going to catch up with 2020 sales will depend (almost entirely) on whether or not Nintendo can cope with demand for the latest Nintendo Switch model.
As of this week, the Nintendo Switch has sold 21 425 339 units, with 138 409 units for the OLED model, 4 088 784 units for the Lite model, and 17 198 146 units for the OG model. And as mentioned above, the Nintendo Switch hit another milestone this week: 4 million units YTD! Unless shipments for all models drop like a rock during Q4, the Nintendo Switch will have absolutely no trouble selling over 5 million units this year again.
Finally, Nintendo 3DS sales dropped to 405 units this week (down from 474 units last week, and 947 units last year). This brings YTD sales to 24 194 units (down from 55 371 units last year), and LTD sales to 24 583 102 units.
