Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is the latest entry in the Fire Emblem series (the first one on Nintendo Switch 2!), and it comes out on September 17th worldwide.

July 10th
Buccaneer (voiced by Takayuki Ishii in Japanese) is a battle-hardened warrior who goes by the nickname of “Demon Bear”. He served Leda’s father for many years, and sometimes calls Leda “Princess” out of habit. Even though he stands by Leda’s side on her quest for revenge, he does have some misgivings about it.
Likes: loyalty, mentoring promising youths, daydreaming about Leda’s happiness.
The video below shows a conversation between Buccaneer and Leda, in which Buccaneer reminisces about his days as a young, hot-blooded warrior. Apparently, he first met Leda’s father over 20 years ago.
In battle, Buccaneer makes use of his formidable physique to fend off enemy attacks, and strikes back using his signature axe.
July 8th
Bonaparte (voiced by Satoshi Tsuruoka in Japanese) is a wise general from the Kingdom of Saramis, who serves as Theodora’s right-hand man on the battlefield. Because writing is forbidden in Saramis, in his memory lives the history and wisdom of an entire people.
Likes: memorizing knowledge, philosophical discussions with other wise people, reciting poetry.
The video below shows a scene taking place in Mageara (official English name TBC), the capital of Saramis. Bonaparte has been a staunch supporter of the Kingdom since the reign of the previous king, which is why his words carry real authority and persuasiveness.
In Battle, Bonaparte uses a combination of swords and magic to take down a variety of foes. And that’s not all: he can also use combat skills to boost his allies’ abilities… not surprising for a famed general known for his strategy falcuties!
July 6th
In Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, there are 5 different types to be found:
- Swords
- Lances
- Axes
- Bows
- Gauntlets
The type of weapons a unit (character) can use depend on their class. For example, the Hunter class has access to Swords and Bows, while the Soldier class can equip Swords, Lances, and Axes.
Also, certain classes well-versed in magic, such as Sorcerer (official English name TBC), can use Magic to attack. Unlike weapons, Magic spells can only be used a certain amount of times. On the plus side, they can deal a lot of damage, even to heavily armoured foes.
July 2nd
Fabio (voiced by Satoshi Yamaguchi in Japanese) is a mysterious missionary from the Holy Church of Seiros. He hails from the distant land of Fodlan. Despite being a man of reason, he has a habit of looking down on others and calling them “beasts.” Even though he’s from the same hometown as Dietrich (one of the protagonists), the two of them have never met.
Likes: all kinds of pain, talking with intelligent people.
The video below shows a scene occuring after the preliminary matches of the Heroic Games. It seems that Fabio will treat anyone he deems intelligent with the respect they deserve, regardless of their age.
In battle, Fabio uses a special kind of dark magic that saps the enemy’s will to fight.
July 1st
Battle Forecast is a handy feature fans of the Fire Emblem series know well. It shows up when you select one of your units (characters) to attack an enemy. The following information is displayed on the screen:
- an estimation of the damage your attack will deal
- the accuracy of your attack
- the probability of landing a critical hit (damage x3)
As long as you don’t press the A button to confirm and launch your attack, you can restart that turn (back to before you selected that unit, meaning you can go and select another one if you want). Make ample use of the Battle Forecast to plan your every move!
June 30th
Tialla (voiced by Maki Kawase in Japanese) is Cai’s childhood friend. She is an avid reader, and even though she’s only 15, the breadth of her knowledge is truly remarkable. She lives with her grandfather, a former military strategist. As his granddaughter, Tialla has inherited his unparalleled talent for military strategy.
Likes: the library, love talk, her grandfather, board games.
The video below shows a discussion between Tialla and Cai. Even though they’re childhood friends, the latter is rather taken aback by Tialla’s seemingly unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
In battle, Tialla makes for an excellent support unit, helping turn the tide of battle by boosting her allies’ stats with a variety of combat skills and rescuing units in trouble with her healing magic.
June 25th
If you’ve already played a Fire Emblem game before, you already know that battles take place on a grid-based battlefield. You move your units (= your characters) one at a time, and once every one of them has performed an action, it’s the enemy’s turn to move. When venturing into enemy territory, it’s crucial that you do so in a way that ensures your units do not become isolated.
When you select a unit, the blue squares represent its movement range, and the red squares its attack range. The movement range varies depending on the unit selected, and the attack range will change based on the weapon equipped.
June 22nd
Dagsion is the Imperial Capital. Surrounded by a vast lake, this city is the very heart of the Dagdan Empire, and is home to over a million people. Various facilities can be found there: a colosseum where fierce battles are fought, a bustling market teeming with people, temples dedicated to the gods ruling the land, and entertainment venues.
The Grand Colosseum is a massive arena found in Dagsion. Day and night, gladiators take part in fierce battles within its walls. The Grand Colosseum also serves as the venue for the recently announced Heroic Games.
June 19th
Leda (voiced by Mariya Ise in Japanese) is a world-class vihuela player who weaves enchanting melodies with her instrument. Five years ago, a certain incident occured, which led her down a path of revenge and resentment.
Likes: memories of her parents, playing songs from her hometown, jewels, applause.
In battle, Leda can skillfully switch between close-range attacks with her sword and long-range attacks with her bow, and on top of that, she can also play her vihuela to grant buffs to her allies.
June 17th
Theodora (voiced by Minami Takayama in Japanese) is the young Queen of the Kingdom of Saramis, who recognises the Dadga Empire as its suzerain. Her unbreakable will allows her to face any hardship, and she is blessed with all the required qualities to lead her people as a proper Queen.
Likes: combat, the happiness of her people.
Her weapon of choice is the Spear of Mahamadou (official English name TBA), which is said to have been wielded by a legendary hero, and allows her to easily defeat enemies on the battlefield.
Using the Gambit command, you can perform area-of-effect attacks and heal allies with the help of your trusted legionnaires.
June 15th
Dietrich (voiced by Satoshi Hino in Japanese) is swordsman of considerable beauty, constantly seeking strong foes to battle to quench his thirst for challenge. A stranger who hails from Fodlan, which lies beyond the seas.
Likes: beautiful things, sweets, his little sister.
Dietrich’s weapon is a magic sword called Answerer, also known as the “Legacy of the Hero.” In battle, he can use a special move known as “Blood Flash” (official English name TBA), which increases chances of landing a critical hit (damage x3).
June 12th
Cai (voiced by Daiki Yamashita in Japanese) is a lively, earnest young man who loves his family, and lives in the peaceful village of Ribeira. There, he spent countless peaceful days with his childhood friends, but on his 15th birthday, the wheels of fate began to turn…
Likes: being active, catching animals.
In battle, Cai rides a winged creature (name TBA) that allows him to jump over obstacles. With his trusted mount, he can dash freely across the battlefield, piercing enemies with his signature spear.
June 11th
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave takes place on Dagda, a vast continent ruled by the Divine Sovereign.
Following several major conflicts, the Dagdan Empire was established around 1,500 years ago. Under its rule, three nations co-exist on the continent. Each harbours the seeds of discord, but they nonetheless enjoy lasting peace and prosperity.
The Heroic Games is a battle tournament presided by the Divine Ruler. It is said that anyone who emerges victorious will see their wish granted by the Divine Ruler himself.
The game’s four protagonists all enter the tournament — four warriors of great talent, filled with unwavering conviction, who will clash in order to fulfill their ambitions.
