Etrian Odyssey V: details and screenshots/artworks for classes, races, and skills

Etrian Odyssey VToday, Atlus shared quite a lot of details, screenshots and artworks for Etrian Odyssey V: The End of the Long Myth (Sekaiju no Meikyuu V: Nagaki Shinwa no Hate in Japanese). This time around, the focus is on the various races and classes, along with their respective skills.

Here’s some of the races (and some of their skills) to be found in Etrian Odyssey V:

Earthrun

  • Fishing: allows you to fish at fishing spots, in the labyrinth;
  • Taijutsu: increases your resistance to sealing.

Lunaria

  • Magic Perception: detects if there are magic-users nearby, small INT bonus;
  • Magical Endowment: increases damage for attack items used in battle, small LUC bonus.

Therian

  • Hunting Skills: allows you to hunt for food in the labyrinth, small STR bonus;
  • Vigilance: increases chances of you launching a preemptive strike. The more party members with this skill, the more effective it becomes. Small WIS bonus.

Bronii

  • Art of Orderliness: increases the maximum number of items you can carry by five. You get five additional slots for each party member with that skill. Small VIT bonus;
  • Herbology: increase the effects of HP recovery items in battle.

Head after the break for the rest of this post!

Finally, we have the skills for some of the classes to be found in Etrian Odyssey V:

Fencer

They fight in the front row, and are pretty good at evading attacks. They use quick movements and linked attacks to defeat their ennemies.

  • Vision Thrust: a skill that blinds enemies. Has a fixed success rate;
  • Chain Fire: allows you to keep attacking if the enemy gets stabbed or hit by a fire attack by an ally during that turn;
  • Silpheed: after using this skill, you have a fixed chance to counter-attack after evading an enemy attack.

Dragoon

They fight in the front row, and boast impressive defense thanks to their thick armour. But they’re not all about defense: their attack power is also something to be reckoned with.

  • Line Guard: lowers damage of physical attacks on one row, during one turn;
  • Gun Mount: launches a ranged strike attack while maintaining the guard skill used during the previous turn;
  • Barrage Wall: fires a barrage of bullets, and lowers the physical attack power of the target. Hit all enemies.

Warlock

They stay in the back row during battles. They use an ancient magic and fire/ice/lightning attributes during battle.

  • Fireball: hits the target with a fireball, but also other enemies nearby;
  • High-Speed Casting: allows you to cast skills without using a turn. Unfortunately, it also increases the amount of TP required to use skills;
  • Casting: Compression Art: when cast, your next magic skill will only hit one enemy, but it will become much more powerful as a result.

Masurao

They wield multiple swords in battle, and always fight in the front row.

  • Oni Musou: allows you to deal more damage by hitting your target several times in a row;
  • Parry: allows you to quickly slash at one enemy, and then follow up with another attack;
  • New Formidable Foe: triggers a battle. Allows you to increase your chances of meeting rare enemies. Fixed chances of a continuous battle occuring.

Herbalist

Just like Warlocks, they stay in the back row during battle. They used various plants and herbes to not only heal allies, but also attack enemies (by poisoning them).

  • Cure Herb: heal allies;
  • Poison Smoke: throws a smoke ball filled with deadly toxins. Fixed chance of an entire row of enemies getting poisoned. Reduces resistance to poison for 3 turns;
  • Dark Smoke: throw a smoke ball filled with a tear-inducing substance. Fixed chance of blinding an entire row of enemies. Reduces resistance to blindness for 3 turns.

Atlus also briefly talks of Union Skills: really powerful skills that can be activated by several party members at once. In order to trigger one, you first need to fill up the Union Gauge. Finally, there’s a Adventurer’s Guild, which works just like in previous Etrian Odyssey games. You go there to register new adventurers, change their appearance, organise your party, and more. Edgar (voiced by Tomohiro Tsuboi) is the manager.

Etrian Odyssey V (3DS) comes out on August 4th in Japan.
