Etrian Odyssey V: more details and screens for Skills, Masters, Titles

Following last month’s massive batch of details and screenshots, Atlus has shared some more today. This time around, the focus is one the remaining character classes and their respective skills, but also the Master and Titles system (introduced a couple of weeks ago). As last time, the translations are by Gematsu.

Etrian Odyssey VClasses and skills

First, here’s some details about the various classes and their skills:

  • Cestus: they stay in the front row, and attack enemies using their fists. They can carefully aim where their fists will land, but also block specific body parts.

Here’s some of their skills:

  • Arm Break: a close-combat attack that targets only one enemy. Fixed chance of inflicting Arm Bind.
  • Blood Rampage: allows the user to reflexively uses their fists as counterattack when taking damage. Fixed chance of performing a weapon attribute attack on the enemy every time you lose HP.
  • Demon Fist: a close-combat attack that targets only one enemy. It consumes its own HP, and will spread to nearby enemies.

***

  • Reaper: they fight in the front row, and specialise in taking advantage of enemy weaknesses… by inflicting them in the first place. They use a rather menacing scythe in battle, and thanks to a mysterious power called “miasma”, they weaken enemies.

Here’s some of their skills:

  • Miasma Armament: the user cloak themselves in miasma, and get in a fighting stance. You can stay in that state for three turns, but it also consumes your own HP.
  • Jugon Sickle: hits the enemy with a single slash attack at close range. If you used Miasma Armament, you also get fixed chance of inflicting a curse on the enemy.
  • Soul Gathering: allows the users to draw the miasma from surrounding monsters. Increases encounter rate, but also the amount of XP received for a short while (based on a fixed amount of steps).

***

  • Necromancer: summoners who are more versatile than they may seem at first glance. They can summon the dead, but also use a wide variety of support, attack, and defense skills.

Here’s some of their skills:

  • Spirit Summon: the user sacrifices some of their own HP to summon a spirit. You can also do it while exploring the dungeon, not necessarily while in battle.
  • Life Compensation: the user sacrifices one of their summoned spirits to get some HP back for all team members.
  • Fire Bomb: create a bomb from a spirit, hitting all enemies with a long-range flame attack.

Head after the break for the rest of this post!

***

  • Hound: they focus on long range attacks, and use the bow and arrow. They work together with animals (such as falcons, for example), and focus on attacking + binding body parts of enemies.

Here’s some of their skills:

  • Falcon Whistle: allows the user to summon a falcom (which can also be done while exploring the dungeon).
  • Wings Flash: a long-range and fast stab attack, hitting only one enemy. It’s followed by an attack from a falcon, for some additional damage.
  • Hound Whistle: allows the users to summon a hound (which can also be done while exploring the dungeon).
  • Rescue Sign: heal status and HP of an ally with the help of the hound.

***

  • Shaman: they stay in the back row, in order to support their allies. They can communicate with spirits, but also heal allies, and get divine protections.

Here’s some of their skills:

  • Prayer: Guard: all allies get increased defense for three turns. The higher the level, the longer the effects last.
  • Gospel: if used along with a strengthening skill, it allows the targeted ally to also recover some HP.
  • Oracle: Ranbu: cancels fire, ice, and thunder damage. Unleashes a long range attack using the canceled element, while lowering the strength of enemy attacks using said element during the same turn.

Gameplay systems

As mentioned previously, your adventurers can become Masters if they clear certain conditions. This allows them to learn some high-level techniques called Master Skills. There’s actually two branches of Master Skills (called Titles), and you have to chose among the two. You can even edit the name of your title.

Here’s an example of Titles for the Fencer class:

  • Phantom Swordsman: focuses on evasion and speed skills (such as Phantom Sword Dance, Sharp Thrust, etc.)
  • Thunderclap Swordsman: focuses on combo skills (such as Resonance and Chain Killer)

As for the Aeolis’ Grand Market, you can buy /sell equipement and items. Using the materials found while exploring the dungeon, you can unlock even more things to buy. The Grand Market is also where you will find the Blacksmith, who can upgrade your weapons (in order to increase their Attack).  Weapons have levels, and once one is maxed out, you can chose to recycle in order to get some materials back. Said materials can then be used to upgrade more weapons.

The shopkeeper is one Bronie called Ceryk, voiced by Aki Kanada.

Etrian Odyssey V (3DS) comes out on August 4th in Japan.
