[E3 2016] Reggie Fils-Aimé: VR needs to become mainstream for Nintendo to jump in

NINTENDO_LOGOVirtual Reality, or VR for short, has made quite the buzz in the past few years, and especially in the past few months with the launch of various headsets. But not everyone is as enthusiastic about it. For example, the CEO of Take-2 is pretty skeptical about it.

Back in February, Tatsumi Kimishima explained that Nintendo was currently “looking at VR“, but that it would take more time and effort for them to assess the technology. Reggie Fils-Aimé said something along those lines to Bloomberg: he explained that Nintendo was first waiting for VR to become mainstream before jumping in.

According to him, it’s something they do for pretty much any technology. He mentions the gyro controls and the touchscreen controls, which only became truly mainstream with the Wii and the Nintendo DS respectively.

Once VR technology has truly become mainstream, that’s when companies like Nintendo jump in, in order to create content that consumers want to experience with that very technology. But when will it become mainstream, exactly? For Reggie Fils-Aimé, it’s still going to take a little while for the technology to truly reach mass market.
