Nintendo: tidbits on second mobile game, NX update, VR, Universal Parks, and more
Today, Nintendo revealed its finanial results for the nine months period ended December 31st (you can find all the details in this post!). During the usual press conference, Tatsumi Kimishima gave some little tidbits about various Nintendo projects, such as their mobile games, the NX platform, and more.
First, it was announced that pre-launch registration for Miitomo would start “soon”, but no proper date was given. Tatsumi Kimishima also reiterated that Nintendo’s next mobile app would be an actual game, and revealed that it would feature a character that fans a pretty familiar with… Link, Mario, Donkey Kong?
“The second game won’t be another communication app, and we plan to adopt one of our characters that fans are very familiar with”
But that’s not all: the NX platform was also briefly mentioned, and more precisely posible the interactivity with Miitomo. Tatsumi Kimishima explained that they would provide an update “not too late in the course of this year”. Unfortunately, it’s not clear if he’s only talking about the interactivity with Miitomo, or only the NX platform itself.
More surprisingly, it was revealed that Nintendo was “looking into” Virtual Reality, but Tatsumi Kimishima explained it would take more time and effort for them to assess the technology. In other words: don’t expect the company to announce anything in that regard any time soon.
Finally, it was reported that the partnership with the Universal Parks & Resorts, announced back in May, wouldn’t apply just to theme parks in North America. The Universal Studio Japan (located in Osaka) would also be part of this partnership, but no date was given as to when the attractions would begin operating.
No doubt we will get more details about all this tomorrow, during the usual meeting with investors.
