Dragon Quest XI: opening movie, footage, details about characters, world, more

As announced a few days ago, Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete was showcased earlier today during a stage presentation at Jump Festa 2017. The following people were in attendance in order to share details about the game (and more!):

  • Yuji Horii
  • Yuji Saito (Producer)
  • Takeshi Uchikawa (Director)

First, we have details about two characters, starting with the protagonist. He’s a 16 year old young man, and in fact, the game begins on the very day of his 16th birthday. He’s from the a place called Ishi, a rather calm and peaceful village.

The second character is called Kamyu, who despite being a thief, is a reliable partner: he supports and guides the novice protagonist, as someone who is quite used to the ways of the world. He may be a bit rude, but possesses a strong sense of duty, and a warm heart.

During the presentation, it was revealed that the world Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete takes place in is called Lotozetacia. There will be a casino, with different games for each version (slots, poker, and more). Speaking of differences between the two versions, it’s been confirmed that the Nintendo 3DS one would feature StreetPass.

Naturally, nothing was said about the Nintendo Switch version (and it will definitely stay like that until January 12th/13th), though Yuji Horii did mention it in passing during the presentation.

Next, here’s the opening movie:

And here’s the gameplay footage for the Nintendo 3DS version and PlayStation 4 versions of the game:

We can see that on Nintendo 3DS, whether you control your characters with the D-Pad or the Circle Pad changes where the text box is displayed.

Finally, here’s some screencaps from the presentation, featuring some screenshots:
