Azure Striker Gunvolt 2: some details from the Portland Retro Gaming Expo

Back in February, Inti Creates announced they were working on a sequel to Azure Striker Gunvolt (which has sold over 130 000 units worldwide, on Nintendo 3DS). Unfortunately, development had barely started when it was revealed, which is why we still don’t know anything about the game itself.

GunvoltHowever, during a panel at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, Takuya Aizu (President of Inti Create) showed the game, and revealed some additional details about it. Apparently, fans who attended the panel got to see some gameplay footage, a new boss, and even got to listen to a brand new song.

More gameplay footage may be shown sometime next summer, and a demo version may be released at that time, but nothing is 100% confirmed at the moment. One thing that was confirmed is that the game will mostly reuse a lot of the assets of the first game. In fact, the transition from Azure Strike Gunvolt 1 to 2 is said to be similar to the one from the first and second Mega Man Zero games.

Fans will be glad to hear that this sequel will be (at least) as long as the original, so something between 8-10 hours. As for the story, very little details are known except that it will have “surprising” elements. Unfortunately, we don’t know if Dullahan will be back or not. Will there be an happy ending? Maybe! Finally, a fan noticed that the emblem used on the checkpoint marker is the same as Copen’s emblem.

Azure Striker Gunvolt (3DS eShop) should be released sometime next year.
