The TakeOver (old-school beat ’em up) headed to the Nintendo Switch

If you’re fan of beat ’em up, and especially old-school ones, then the past few days have had some pretty interesting announcements. Earlier today, we learned that Double Dragon IV was headed to the Nintendo Switch next week. And last week, Pelikan13 stealth-announced that The TakeOver was headed ro the Nintendo Switch.

For those who never heard of the game before, The TakeOver is an old-school beat ’em up, inspired by classics such as Final Fight and Streets of Rage. But only the basic gameplay is old-school, as the game does offer a more modern take on the genre with an extended combo system, fast gameplay, and of course moden visuals.

Speaking of visuals, The TakeOver uses a unique combination of full 3D backgrounds and high definition pre-rendered sprites. The game was designed with full HD in mind, and it clearly shows in the trailer below!

Here’s that trailer (not featuring Nintendo Switch footage, obviously, as it’s from March!):

When will the game be released? We don’t really know, as development is still on-going. Right now, it’s available on Steam as an Early-Access titles, and it’s getting pretty frequent updates (the last one was on Auust 5th). If you’re interested, you can check it out by clicking here!

Finally, here’s some screenshots for the game (again: not from Nintendo Switch version):

The TakeOver (Switch – eShop) does not have a release date yet, but it’s already been added to the Upcoming Games page!
