Super Mario Run gets a new feature: Friendly Run

Super Mario Run offers three modes: World Tour (the “traditional” Mario experience, with 24 levels to clear), Toad Rally (where you compete against other players for coins and Toads), and Kingdom Builder (where you create your very own Kingdom using the coins you got in Toad Rally).

The problem with Toad Rally is that it can be quite… brutal, if you happen to lose. Not only do you lose a Rally Ticket (required to play this mode), but you also lose some of the Toads you’ve gathered. Good news for players who want to get better without risking their Toads: Nintendo has added a new feature, called Friendly Run.

With Friendly Run, you can play against other players in a much more casual setting. For starters, you don’t even need Rally Tickets to play, though you can only do so a limited number of times each day (see below for more details). Also, it will not increase the number of enemies defeated, coins, and Toads.

Here’s how often you can play via Friendly Run each day:

  • if you haven’t cleared World 1: once a day
  • if you have cleared World 1: three times a day
  • if you have cleared World 2: five times a day

Playing via Friendly Run is extremely easy:

  1. you begin by adding friends, if you haven’t already;
  2. you choose an opponent from your friend list.
  3. that’s it!

NB: you need to complete the Kingdom Builder tutorial before being able to play via Friendly Run.
