Splatoon 3: details on future plans (updates, events), Splatfest retrospective, Grand Festival memories (amiibo)
Over the weekend, the Grand Festival (the biggest Splatfest in Splatoon history) took place in Splatoon 3, with Team Past claiming victory. This Splatfest was held to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of the game, and also marked the end of regular updates for the game.
Ahead of launch, Nintendo revealed that Splatoon 3 would receive regular content updates (one every 3 months) for two years. And now that those two years are over, the company has confirmed that Splatoon 3 would not receive any more. Unlike Splatoon and Splatoon 2, there seemingly won’t be an encore with extra Gear and Weapons.
However, Splatoon 3 is far from finished. For starters, Nintendo will keep releasing updates to adjust game balance (in fact, one was already announced alongside Ver. 9.1.0).
Also, the seasonal events (Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights) will continue to be held, though their Splatfests will feature returning themes instead of brand new ones.
And that’s not all: Nintendo has confirmed that, for the time being, Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue as usual.
By the way, if you missed the Grand Festival (or simply want to re-experience it), you can tap the Squid Sisters, Off the Hook, and Deep Cut amiibo in order to gain access to the concert venue. Right now, you need to be connected to internet to do so, but an upcoming update will make it so this feature works offline too.
By using an amiibo to reminisce about the Grand Festival, you can not only check out the concert venue itself, but you can also change the time of day at will. That allows you to check out the venue as it was during the first half, the second half, and the end of the Grand Festival. You can also fastforward the music performances and skip directly to the next song, and more. To do that, head to the Train Station under the main menu.
Finally, Nintendo has shared a video retrospective of all the Splatfests in Splatoon 3, offering a players a trip down memory lane:
