Shovel Knight: over 700 000 units sold, retail versions confirmed, Plague of Shadows details, more

Sales

Yesterday, Yacht Club Games posted a rather lengthy update on their official blog, in order to make several announcement. The first one is about the game sales: they have passed the 700 000 units milestone! This is a great results for YCG’s very first game, and this rate, Shovel Knight is boung to reach 1 million total sales down the line.

Retail version

They also confirmed what leaked a few weeks ago: Shovel Knight is indeed getting a retail release, and both the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS versions are concerned! The release date is October 13th for North America / October 16th in Europe, and the price is quite nice: only 19.99$ (the price in € and £ is yet to be confirmed).

What’s included in the retail version? Well, quite a lot of things:

– the original campaign
– the first content update (Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows)
– a “lavish” instruction booklet, similar to the one for one of the Kickstarter tiers

Obviously, this retail version will get all the upcoming content for the game, such as:

  • Specter Knight’s Campaign – A full campaign starring the shadowy scythe spinner!
  • King Knight’s Campaign – A crazy campaign with the gilded goob himself!
  • Battle Mode – Duel with up to 4 players as your favorite heroic or villainous knight! (Wii U/PS4/XB1/PC exclusive)
  • Body Swap Mode –  Did you ever wish Shovel Knight was a lady, or Shield Knight was a dude? Well, now you’ll be able to change them all around, along with the rest of the cast!

The best thing is: Yacht Club Games are publishing the game themselves, with U&I Entertainment as distributors.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, Nintendo content

Yacht Club Games is hard at work on the first content update for the game: Plague of Shadows. They’re currently busy polishing everything up before the release, which will definitely happen before the retail version comes out (since the game needs to be ready early enough for cartridge/disc manufacturing/printing, it means the content update should be out in September at the very latest!).

The developers are also working on the Battle Mode, which will have lots of playable characters, stages, battle types, options, and more. In the coming months, Yacht Club Games will reveal the final Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows release date, as well as a trailer. They will also make a “Megaton” announcement for Nintendo platforms, most likely some exclusive content similar to what the PlayStation and Xbox 1 version got.

Finally, here’s some pictures for Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadow:
