[Updated] Shovel Knight getting a retail release in North America (3DS)

Update

Yesterday evening, Yacht Club Games posted the following message on its official Twitter account:

From the looks of it, a retail release for Shovel Knight is certainly something Yacht Club Games is interested in and working on, but there’s nothing concrete to announce just yet.

Shovel Knight came out in June 2014 in North America, and November 2014 in Europe, and has been really successful with over 300 000 copies sold by December 4th (across all platforms). Right now, the game is only available on the Nintendo eShop, but it turns out it will also get a retail version in September in North America!

The online website of North American retailer BestBuy has started listing a retail version for Shovel Knight, and more precisely the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. The MSRP is apparently 29.99$ (probably a placeholder), versus 14.99$ for the digital version on the Nintendo eShop. Unfortunately, we don’t know if the game also comes with extras, to make up for the higher pricepoint, or if the Wii U version will also get a retail release.

Here’s the boxart of the 3DS version of Shovel Knight at retail:

The retail version of Shovel Knight (3DS) will come out on September 15th in North America. We currently don’t know if Europe will also get that retail version or not. We’ll probably have more information whenever Yacht Club Games makes an official announcement about this retail release.
