Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn announced for the Nintendo Switch, free for NBA Playgrounds owners

Earlier this week, Saber Interactive announced their second game for the Nintendo Switch. It’s called Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn. There’s not much that we know about the game, but we do have a trailer and some screenshots (and a release window: this Fall).

Here’s the trailer:

And here’s the screenshots:

What’s really interesting about this game is that players who own NBA Playground on the Nintendo Switch will be able to get it for free (though we don’t know how they will get it in the first place). The reason for this very generous offer? It’s to thanks fans for their patience, since the major patch for NBA Playgrounds (adding online play) still isn’t available on the Nintendo Switch.

Here’s what Matthew Karch (CEO of Saber Interactive) had to say about that:

We had every intention of launching online play for NBA Playgrounds on Nintendo Switch within days of release, but, despite our best efforts, it didn’t play out that way. We sincerely apologize for the delay and want to let everyone know the fix will be coming very soon. But words are cheap, and games are not. So we’re giving everyone that bought NBA Playgrounds on Nintendo Switch before the online play patch hits a free copy of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn on Switch when it is available this fall to express our gratitude.

More details about how players will be able to claim their free copy of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn will be shared a later date.

The first update for NBA Playgrounds adds:

  • 15 new players (including Isaiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman, and Shaq can now be played with the various teams from his career)
  • Challenge mode (allows you to challenge other players to online matches)
  • new connection manager (to penalise ragequitters)
  • tweaks to the shooting system
  • and more

But that’s just the beginning: Saber Interactive is also working on adding new ways to compete online, and dozens of new players.
