Scriblenauts is back with Scribblenauts Showdown, releasing in early March

Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure was released back in 2013 on Wii U, and unfortunately for fans, there hasn’t been a new Scribblenauts game since then. But after a nearly 5 years long hiatus, the series is finally back with a brand new entry, called Scribblenauts Showdown. It’s releasing in early March in Europe and North America.

Sadly, there’s a catch: it’s most likely not the kind of Scribblenauts game you were hoping for… Indeed, the focus of this one is on “fast-paced multiplayer experiences”, with two new party game modes for one to 4 players.

The game modes are as follows:

  • Showdown: up to 4 players face off in several mini-games featuring card-based strategy and creative skill. There’s “Wordy” mini-games, where you need to unleash the best object or character from the Scribblenauts dictionary (over 30 000 words), but also “Speedy” mini-games where you need to complete a given challenge before everyone else. In this mode, players progress on a board game style map, with multiple ways to make up ground;
  • Versus: two players can face okk in a series of mni-games (more than 25 in total), that very in every session. You can also play this mode on your own, if you prefer.
  • Sandbox: something that should appeal to fans of the series, as it offers gameplay closer to the original Scribblenauts experience than the two game modes mentioned above. You can play either on your own or with a friend, and try to solve objectives in 8 levels, with hidden Starites to get.

Finally, Warner Bros. reveals that Scribblenauts Showdown let players design their very own, original Scriblenaut to play with throughout the game. You can even customise them using unique clothing and quirky accessories, thanks to Starites.
