Puzzle & Dragons X: trailer, details, release date, debut date for the TV anime, and more

Puzzle & Dragons XPuzzle & Dragons X

A few days ago, we learned from CoroCoro magazine that Puzzle & Dragons X would come out this Summer in Japan, in two versions (each with exclusive content, such as monsters):

  • Kami no Shou (lit. Chapter of the God)
  • Ryuu no Shou (lit. Chapter of the Dragon)

Today, during a press event for the 4th Anniversary of the Puzzle & Dragons series, GungHo confirmed the news, and revealed that Puzzle & Dragons X would be released on July 28th in Japan, where it will cost 4 800 (+ Yen) at retail, and 4 074 Yen (+ taxes) on the Nintendo eShop.

The official website was also updated, and gives details about the co-op. During battles, both players can fight monsters together, but they each have to wait their turn. However, when it’s not your turn, you can see the puzzle board of your partner: using specific skills, you can even give a hand and change some of the drops.

When playing in co-op, damage from enemy attacks are halved: basically, every player receives 50% of the damage. For example, if an enemy attack is supposed to deal 100 damage, each player will receive 50 damage (instead of both players receiving 100).

Good news about co-op: it’s not just for battles, as two players can also explore the fields and dungeons together. To do that, simply go to the DoraGouza Communication Center, and recruit a friend. However, there’s a catch: co-op is only available via local wireless, and not online. (For those of you who might be wondering: yes, the game will have a VS mode, too!)

As mentioned previously, you get materials when defeating monsters: those can be used to create Soul Armors, which are imbued with the power of monsters. The good thing about co-op is that both players get the same rewards: no fighting over who gets what! That way, you will be able to partner up with friends, defeat strong monsters, and celebrate together.

Finally, here’s some screencaps from the official website:

Pre-orders for the game will start on March 16th. The early purchase bonuse will be an “Armor Drop”, a special medal to be used with the D-Gear (one of the toys Takara-TOMY will release this Summer). There’s a specific Armor Drop per version. As for the pre-order bonus, it’s a Puzzle & Dragons X touchpen (once again, there’s a specific one for each version).

Manga

As mentioned in CoroCoro magazine, Puzzle & Dragons X will also get a manga adaptation by Momota Inoue (who already did the Puzzle & Dragons Z manga). It will begin serialisation in the May issue of the magazine (coming out on April 15th).

Anime

During the press conference, GungHo announced that the Puzzle & Dragons X anime series would be by Studio Pierrot (Naruto, Bleach, Tokyo Ghoul, etc.), and would debut on July 4th. A new episode will air every Monday at 6.25PM, on TV Tokyo. Click here to check out the official page.

Toys

Along with the game and the TV Anime series, Puzzle & Dragons X will get some toys by Takara-TOMY in Summer. One of them is the very D-Gear that appears in the game.

GungHo Festival 2016

The GungHo Festival 2016 will take place on May 29th, at the Makuhari Messe. Puzzle & Dragons X will be playable there, but it will not be the only opportunity for fans to try out the game before launch. From March 20th to May 15th, the GungHo Festival Tour 2016 will stop at 9 different Aeon Mall locations across Japan, and the game will be playable there.

Puzzle & Dragons X (3DS) comes out on July 28th in Japan.
