PokéNews (March 9): Pokémon Sword and Shield / Pokémon GO

Today’s Pokémon news: latest screenshots and details for Pokémon Sword and Shield, but also…

  • Pokémon GO
  • Pokémon Duel
  • Pokémon Sun and Moon (anime)
  • Pokémon merchandise

Pokémon Sword and Shield

On May 8th, Nintendo of America shared a few minor details about Pokémon Sword and Shield via Twitter. First, we got the confirmation that the big stadium(s) seen in the reveal trailer are actually Gyms (with one of them focusing on Grass type Pokémon). They’re quite clearly football-themed (your character is even seen wearing football clothes), but it’s not clear what impacts that has on actual Gym battles just yet.

Also, quite interestingly, Nintendo referred to the Gym leaders as “Gym Masters”. However, we don’t know if this was a mistake, and if it’s not, what this means about Gyms in this game. It’s certainly not a mistranslation, because Gym leaders are also referred to as Gym leaders in Japanese.

But the thing is, Nintendo of America has since deleted the tweet. Was it sent too early, with The Pokémon Company not too happy about this particular tidbit being out in the wild right now?

Here’s the two screenshots that came with the tweet:

Pokémon GO

Heads up for Pokémon GO players: the latest update for the game (0.137.1 on Android and 1.105.1) should now be available on most (all?) Android and iOS devices as of writing. Check out this page for more details about the changes/fixes it brings!

Pokémon Duel

It has been announced that the new Software update for Pokémon Duel, Ver. 7.0.4, will be released on March 12th/March 13th (following some maintenance). Unfortunately, it’s not clear what this update will do just yet, but more details will be added to this page as soon as the update is live.
