Pokémon GO now available on Apple Watch, new update being released (iOS)
A few days ago, Niantic denied rumours that Pokémon GO for the Apple Watch had been shelved, and revealed that it would be released “soon“. It turns out Niantic really wasn’t lying, because it was released… yesterday (less than a week later)!
Here’s the core features of this Apple Watch version of Pokémon GO:
- Log each play session as a workout, with gameplay counting toward personal Activity rings
- Receive notifications about nearby Pokémon
- Count distance toward hatching Pokémon Eggs and receiving Candy with your Buddy Pokémon
- Receive notifications about PokéStops nearby and collect items from them
- Receive notifications when Eggs hatch and medals are awarded
Unfortunately, if you want to catch Pokémon, you have no choice but to grab your iPhone, as you cannot do so on your Apple Watch (you can only discover nearby Pokémon, and get items from PokéStops).
Also, a new update for Pokémon GO is being released for the iOS version of the game. It brings the game to Ver. 1.21.2, but unfortunately, Niantic doesn’t specify what this update fixes (no doubt it’s related to the release of the Apple Watch version of the game).
Trainers, Pokémon GO is being updated to version 1.21.2 for iOS.
