Pokémon GO news (March 30): latest update, Research feature, Community Day

Pokémon GO – Research

Later today, a brand new feature for Pokémon GO will go live: the Field Research and Special Research. Ahead of that launch, The Pokémon Company has provided some additional details about it.

It allows us to learn that Moltres is among the Pokémon you will eventually be able to meet via Research Breakthroughs, that happen after collecting 7 stamps, that you can get by completing Research tasks.

Speaking about those Research tasks, the Field Research tasks you get from PokéStop change every day, and all players get the same ones. It seems that not all PokéStops give the same kind of tasks. If you happen to cancel one, you can simply spin the same PokéStop again to get it back.

Finally, if you ever get the special Research tasks related to Mew, that allow you to meet it, a special icon will appear instead of the usual Research icon on the main screen. Do note that you need to be at least Level 5 to tackle them, and you can only meet Mew once.

Pokémon GO – Latest update

Earlier this week, the latest Software update for Pokémon GO went live. If you want to try out the Research feature asap, then you need to go download it right away!

The update also makes the following changes:

  • the weather icon has been moved to the top right corner of the screen
  • on the nearby screen, Pokémon that are yet to be caught now appear at the top regardless of whether it’s at the nearest PokéStop or not

As usual, you can find more details about the various Software updates for Pokémon GO on this page!

Pokémon GO – Community Day

Here’s when this event will take place:

  • Asia-Pacific: 12PM to 3PM JST

Pokémon GO – Unown

Finally, if you’re from New Zealand and want to get the A, R, M, G, E, D, O, and N Unown letters, you might want to head over to the Armageddon Expo in Wellington: those specific letters have increased spawns in the surrounding area. This lasts until Sunday, 5PM.
