Pokémon GO news (Dec. 11): Trainer Battles / Meltan

Today’s Pokémon GO news: even more details about Trainer Battles, new Software udpate, updated Mystery Box (for Meltan), and 2018 Community Day stats!

Pokémon GO – Trainer Battles

Over the past few days, Niantic has shared more details about Trainer Battles, coming to Pokémon GO this very month.

As mentioned previously, you can take part in practice battles against team leaders Spark, Candela, and Blanche. They’re available at any time of the day, and you can freely change the difficulty level of the battles by selecting different Battle Leagues.

Alongside the experience earned, you can get various rewards from the team leaders, but only once a day. Also, battle wins in this training mode do count towards the Ace Trainer medal!

Next: Protect Shields. During Trainer Battles, you can use one to defend yourself from incoming attacks. If your timing is right, then deploying one will save your Pokémon from critical damage. However, there’s a big catch: you can only deploy a limited number of shields, so you need to think carefully about when to use one!

Finally, Niantic has specified that Trainer Battles will be rolled out in stages, starting with Level 40 Trainers first. That way, the developers can make sure it runs smoothly and avoid major disruptions before rolling out to more players.
