No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – Announcement trailer, details about key characters, digital soundtrack, more

During the Nintendo Direct in March, Spike-Chunsoft revealed a brand new game in the AI: The Somnium Files series. It’s called No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES, and it’s launching on July 25th on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

Here’s the announcement trailer shared today by Spike-Chunsoft (both English and Japanese versions are available):

And here’s some additional details and screenshots:

As Kaname Date – a special agent with an AI partner embedded in his left eye – your mission is to track down Iris, an internet Idol who has been trapped in a mysterious escape game. Conduct interviews to investigate her whereabouts, dive into a subject’s dreams to reveal clues hidden in their psyche and solve mind-bending puzzles to learn the truth.

And today, Spike-Chunsoft shared some more details and pictures for the game. First up is the official key artwork:

Next up, here’s some character profiles:

  • Kaname Date (voiced by Tarusuke Shingaki): a police officer from the Advanced Brain Investigation Squad (ABIS for short) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He’s a Psyncer who uses a Psync Machine to conduct investigations from within the dreams of people.
  • Aiba (voiced by Akari Kitou): an eyeball-shaped AI that acts as Date’s sidekick. Her official name is AI-Ball, and she usually lies within Date’s left eye socket, serving as a prostethic eye. She supports his investigations with various useful tools such as X-Rays, thermography, and information analysis. Within the Somnium, she assumes the shape of a young woman, and acts in Date’s place as an ABIS Psyncer.
  • Iris Saigan (voiced by Nao Shiraki): a high-school girl who works as an internet idol under the name of A-set. She met Date during a certain incident in the past. One day, she’s suddenly abducted, and wakes up in a mysterious place that resembles a spaceship. There, she is forced to play a deadly game with the fate of humankind at stake.
  • Hina Tsukiyono (voiced by Fairouz Ai): a part-time ABIS employee, mostly responsible for technical support for Psync equipment but who, for some reasons, ends up assuming the role of an operator.
  • Akemi (voiced by Nanako Mori): a reptilian, and the organizer of the escape game Iris finds herself embroiled in. She explains the rules of the game via a monitor.

No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES brings back some of the gameplay elements from the first two games, such as the Investigation parts (where you head to crime scenes to investigate), and the Somnium parts (where you dive deep into a subject’s dreams to seek the truth).

But it also introduces brand new Escape segments. Just like in the Zero Escape series, you need to solve various puzzles to try and escape from locked rooms. In order to find the truth and rescue Iris, you will need to navigate back and forth between the three parts.

Finally, Spike-Chunsoft announced that the soundtrack album for No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES will be released digitally on the same day as the game on Steam and various other platforms (YouTube Music, iTunes, and more). It features a total of 22 songs (over 70 minutes of music in total). The cover was designed by Kozaki Yusuke.

No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES (Switch, Switch 2) comes out on July 25th worldwide.
