Update: Nintendo have announced that the offer is now live in Europe (nothing announced for North America yet). The article below has been updated!

If you buy content on the Nintendo eShop, you’re rewarded with some Gold Coins that can then be used to get a discount on future purchases. However, not all content is eligible: that’s the case of the Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions for example. But thanks to the new promotion announced for Japan and Europe, users will be able to get some Gold Coins when purchasing or renewing a subscription!

From March 16th to May 10th, players who buy or renew a Nintendo Switch Online subscription (12 months only) will get 10% of the amount paid as Gold Coins:

  • Individual Plan (12 months, 19.99€ / £17.99 / 2 400 Yen): 200 Gold Coins in Europe and North America, 180 Gold Coins in the United Kingdom, 240 Gold Coins in Japan
  • Family Plan (12 months, 34.99€ / £31.49 / 4 500 Yen): 350 Gold Coins in Europe and North America, 320 Gold Coins in the United Kingdom, 450 Gold Coins in Japan

As mentioned above, this offer is available to all users, even those renewing their subscription. And don’t worry if you have automatic renewal activated: you will still get your Gold Coins if your subscription is renewed during the period mentioned above (alternatively, you can always add 12 months to your subscription manually, as long as you don’t go over 36 months).

Some things to keep in mind:

  • offer is limited (can only be used once per account)
  • in Europe and North America, it excludes upgrades to a Family Membership from an ongoing 12-month Individual Membership.

Nintendo specify that the Gold Coins are not awarded directly upon purchase:

  • Europe: roughly 1 month after purchase
  • Japan: on April 15th for purchases made in March, and May 15th for those made in April and May.

Also, you don’t have to buy the subscription on the Nintendo eShop itself: you can still get a card at your local retailers, though you will have to redeem it by the end of the campaign period.
