Nintendo eShop: Nintendo now offers an option to cancel digital pre-orders (Nintendo Switch)

Following the maintenance earlier today, Nintendo has activated a new feature for the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch. Thanks to it, you can now cancel pre-orders for upcoming games, though only up to 7 days before launch (after that, you will be unable to cancel your purchase).

Starting today (September 1st), games now have two pre-purchase options:

  • Pre-order: available until 7 days before launch (for example: up to October 23rd for a game launching on October 30th). This option allows you to cancel your pre-purchase at any time, but only before the game enters its pre-purchase period and you’re billed for your purchase;
  • Pre-purchase: available one week before launch. This option does not allow you to cancel your pre-purchase.

With this new system, you’re only billed when a game enters its pre-purchase period, so 7 days before launch. For example, if you pre-purchase Pikmin 3 Deluxe today (releasing on October 30th worldwide), then you will only be billed on October 23rd, and you will be able to cancel your pre-purchase until that date.

To know if you can cancel a pre-purchase before actually buying anything, simply check the Nintendo eShop page of the game you’re interested in, and more precisely the purchase button. Games where you can cancel your pre-order will have a “Proceed to Pre-order” button, while those that you cannot cancel the pre-order of will have “Proceed to Purchase” instead.

By the way, this new option is only available for pre-purchases made from September 1st onwards, even if the release date is still further than 7 days away.

To check the games you’ve pre-ordered, head to the Nintendo eShop, and click on your user icon (top right corner of the screen)., then select “Your pre-orders”. From that list, you will be able to cancel your pre-orders at any time, as long as it’s within the pre-order period. Games you have already been billed for will not show up there.
