Nintendo to discontinue Miiverse on November 8th, list of games impacted

Launched alongside the Wii U back in 2012, Miiverse is a social network open exclusively to Wii U and Nintendo 3DS owners, who get a dedicated space to discuss their favourite games. It’s the biggest of the three services to be discontinued, and will impact both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS platforms. It will cease to be on November 8th, at the following time:

  • Europe: 7AM
  • UK: 6AM
  • North America (ET): 1AM
  • North America (PT): 10PM (November 7th)
  • Japan: 3PM

For those who would like to archive their content, they will be able to so via a special service offered on the web version of Miiverse. That service will let users download their post (but not the comments posted to them).

To download your Post History, you need to click on “Post History Download Information”, found on the main page of the web version of Miiverse. Do note that you will need a Nintendo Account to download your posts. More details can be found in this post!

Naturally, once Miiverse has been discontinued, all services will be unavailable. If you attempt to use it, you will get an error telling you it has been discontinued:

  • Wii U: Error Code 115-5004
  • Nintendo 3DS: Error Code 015-5004

As you probably realised, the Miiverse features in-game will also be disabled for the various games that support them. For example, in New Super Mario Bros. U, the various messages and illustrations from users will no longer be displayed on the overworld anymore (or anywhere else, for that matter).

About Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars…

Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars is one of the games impacted by Miiverse closing on November 8th. Nintendo has shared more details about what is going to happen to the game, since it heavily relies on the service:

Editor

  • you will no longer be able to post stages you created
  • you will no longer receive stars for playing other users’ stages, and for posting yours
  • you will no longer be able to remove, delete, or edit stages you shared with other users

Naturally, you will be able to keep playing stages you created yourself, but you may not be able to buy all the parts in the store (since there’s a limit on the numbers of stairs you can obtain).

Community

  • you will no longer be able to play levels shared by the community
  • you will no longer be able to support other users by tipping them stars, and you will no longer be able to receive Miiverse stamps
  • you will only be able to play stages downloaded before Miiverse was discontinued.

Main game

  • you will be able to keep playing the main game without any issues.
