My Nintendo: Nintendo to terminate Gold Points starting this March
Launched back in 2016, My Nintendo is the successor to Club Nintendo. It allows players to get Coins (or Points) by performing various actions such as buying games on the Nintendo eShop, playing some of Nintendo’s Mobile games, visit the Nintendo website, etc.. There are two kinds of Coins you can get: Platinum Points and Gold Points, but starting next month, it will no longer be possible to get the latter.
Nintendo has just announced that on March 24th at 8.30PM PT / 11.30PM ET – March 25th at 4.30AM GMT / 5.30AM CET / 1.30PM JST, Gold Points will be terminated, and you will no longer be able to get any by making qualifying purchases (for purchases at Nintendo Stores like Nintendo Tokyo, March 24th will be the last day for Gold Points). That will leave My Nintendo with only one kind of Points / Coins = Platinum Points.
Unfortunately, Nintendo’s announcement does not specify why Gold Points are being terminated, though one can assume that they will eventually be replaced by something else at a later date.
However, Nintendo does specify that Gold Points you’ve already earned will stay valid for 12 months from the date of being earned. That means you will be able to use the remaining Points to earn discounts on Nintendo eShop even after March 25th, 2025 (before they expire of course).
Here’s some additional details:
- About pre-orders: pre-orders for digital titles made on the Nintendo eShop or the official Nintendo website before Gold Points are terminated will STILL earn you Gold Points even if payment is processed after the date and time mentioned above. The Gold Points will be added to your Nintendo Account within 24 hours of your payment being processed and your receiving the usual “Thank you for your Nintendo eShop purchase” email.
- If you cancel the pre-order before payment is processed (or if said payment doesn’t go through because of an issue on your end (like insufficient funds or an expired credit card), you will not get any Gold Points even if you pre-order again (or buy the game at a later date)
- If you pre-order a game as a Download Code (via a third-party retailer or the My Nintendo Store), you will NOT get any Gold Points from March 25th onwards.
- About physical game cards: you can get Gold Points by registering physical Game Cards for any game released by March 24th 2025. You will then have up to 2 years (1 year in some countries) to claim the Gold Points. Games released after that date will not grant any Gold Points.
- If you’re unsure when a game was released, you can check its release date on the Nintendo eShop.
- Specific Nintendo Switch consoles and bundles bought on the My Nintendo Store in Japan will net you some Gold Points if you buy them before March 25th at 1.29PM JST (they will be awarded within 16 days of shipment date)
- Eligible models:
- Nintendo Switch OLED: White, Custom
- Nintendo Switch: Custom
- Nintendo Switch Lite: Yellow, Turquoise, Grey, Coral, Blue
- Eligible models:
- Nintendo specify that any previous commitment by Nintendo to grant Gold Points outside the methods described above (like tournaments, contests, etc.) will still be fulfilled. Also, players may also be granted Gold Points for exceptional reasons at Nintendo’s discretion even after March 25th 2025.
Speaking of announcements, Nintendo has also confirmed that current Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers will not work for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive titles.
