Nintendo Switch Online: Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers won’t work for Nintendo Switch 2 games

Earlier today, Nintendo announced that Gold Points from their My Nintendo loyalty program will be discontinued starting March 25th. And that’s not the only change coming to Nintendo’s digital offerings: the company has also confirmed that existing Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers will not work for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games.

As spotted by Vooks, Nintendo has updated the Nintendo Switch Game Voucher page with the following disclaimer:

Regarding Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games
Please note that Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers cannot be redeemed for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games.

The page dedicated to Game Vouchers on Nintendo of Europe’s website was also updated with the same disclaimer:

Please note that Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers cannot be redeemed for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games.

Right now, it’s not clear if this “announcement” means that there will not be any Game Vouchers for Nintendo Switch 2 period. It’s also unclear what will happen to potential cross-gen titles.

Given that Nintendo Switch 2 games are expected to be more expensive than their Nintendo Switch counterparts, it’s likely that Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games will simply have their own, separate Game Vouchers, more expensive than the current ones for Nintendo Switch games.

No doubt Nintendo will share clarifications about that either during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd, shortly following the presentation, or at the latest in the weeks leading to launch.
