Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition also getting the Super Duper Graphics Pack

Last week, some major announcements were made for Minecraft (including Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition) which is getting a major update this Summer. This update will add cross-platform play, but also cross-buy for DLC, Minecraft Realms, and a lot more. Make sure to check out this post if you haven’t already, to get up to speed with everything that’s in store with the Better Together update.

But what we didn’t know is that Minecraft: Nintendo Switch was also getting the Super Duper Graphics Pack. This packs introduces the following graphical enhancements:

  • dynamic shadows
  • lighting that streams through fog
  • movement in leaves and grass
  • new textures for mobs and villagers
  • directional lighting
  • edge highlighting
  • and more…

Initially, we assumed that this pack would not come to the Nintendo Switch version of the game, due to the rather unambiguous wording on the official blog:

This Pack will be available on Xbox One and Windows 10, performing best on high-end PCs and the Xbox One X (formerly known as Project Scorpio).

The thing is, that sentence is worded in such a way that anyone would think only the Xbox One and Windows 10 Editions of the game are getting the Super Duper Graphics Pack… and it’s not the case at all!

Microsoft confirmed it themselves: all versions getting the new version of Minecraft (with the Better Together update) will get the pack:

It will be anywhere that you can play Minecraft in the new version. It will improve any screen on which you play, but the best experience will be on Xbox One X.

Here’s a video of the pack (running on Xbox X, not Nintendo Switch!):
