Media Create: more sales data for Week 52 in Japan

Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 52. During that week, a total of 1.824 million games were sold, which is slightless than Week 51 (93.05%), but more than Week 52 in 2014 (120.25%). The increase is primarily due to two platforms: the Wii U and the PS Vita.

For the Wii U, Media Create notes that sales during Week 52 in 2015 were 161.12% of their level last year, during the same week. Splatoon and Super Mario Maker had a pretty positive impact on sales: they sold 94 874 units and 98 155 units respectively, which shows they were among the hottest video-game presents for Christmas.

Super Mario MakerDuring Week 52, a total of 379 000 consoles were sold in Japan, which is more than last week (116.21%), and last year during the same week (114.73%). Media Create notes that during Week 51 and 52, sales of consoles were above the 300 000 units/week threshold, which is a pretty good result. What’s more, both Hardware and Software are up Year on Year, which is another good news for the Japanese market. Unfortunately, this will not be nearly enough to compensate for the overall drop for the full year.
