Legend of Kusakari: release date and pricing for Europe/North America, details

This morning, Nnooo sent a press release to announce that Legend of Kusakari would be released on August 25th in Europe and North America. For those who missed the initial announcement several months ago, Legend of Kusakari is a downloadable title inspired by the Legend of Zelda series, and more precisely… grass cutting.

You play as Shiba Kari, a humble grass cutter who has to keep cutting grass while avoiding the battles around him. To accomplish his task, he can upgrade his scythe within each level (which is done by cutting grass, naturally), which allows him to unleash powerful moves. Unfortunately, there’s a catch: if he stops cutting grass even for a few moments, he starts losing health. To get it back, he has to cut some special blue grass.

At the end of each level, you get a rank: complete levels as fast as possible in order to get the highest one possible!

Legend of Kusakari also features the following:

  • 50 levels (which take about 10 hours to complete);
  • 10 additional levels to unlock (which take up to another 10 hours to complete);
  • a Green Thumb Almanac system, where all the different types of grass, plants and weeds you cut are documented. There’s also collectible plants, which require you to play the levels several times, differently, in order to be unlocked;
  • online leaderboards.

If the 60 levels mentioned above are not enough for you, Legend of Kusakari also features an endless mode, where the grass just keeps growing. You need to find the elusive blue grass in order to survive, and you can use the map and the spring abilitity to do so.

Here’s what Kenichi Fujimoto (Localisation Manager at Librage) said about the game, and more precisely its grass cutting inspiration:

We felt that we would like to produce and play a game which had this as a central mechanic. However, we didn’t feel it would be appealing if players just cut grass, so we introduced the puzzle/challenge element. We also wanted to have a story hook to keep the player interested. Seeing as there are so many stories about a brave warrior beating an evil King, we thought it would be interesting to compose the story from a fresh point of view. In The Legend of Kusakari you are a humble grass cutter who keeps the battlefields clean.”

Legend of Kusakari will be released on August 25th in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and North America. It will cost US$4.99 / 4.99€ / £3.99 / AUS$6.99 / NZ$7.99. Our Upcoming Releases page has been updated!
