[Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea] Famitsu and Media Create sales for Week 20, 2020 (May 11 – May 17) [Top 30]
Here’s the latest sales reports from Famitsu and Media Create, covering Week 20, 2020 in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea!
Famitsu (Week 20)
Now that the Golden Week has come and passed, sales are naturally down for the Japanese market. But despite that, there’s not much change in the Top 10 Software provided by Famitsu. In fact, the Top 5 is exactly the same, and the games in the second half of the Top 10 are almost all the same as the previous week.
The only entry in the Top 10 is the latest All-in-One Package for Dragon Quest X. Only the Nintendo Switch version managed to chart, with 5 657 units sold (in line with previous All-in-One Packages on Nintendo Switch, except the first one).
Sales are down for pretty much all games this week, with the exception of Ring Fit Adventure. It sold 21 963 units this week (-3%), which brings LTD sales to over 900 000 units (905 295 units to be precise). It will reach the 1 million units milestone within the next few weeks, which is must later than it would have if not for those pesky shortages. In case you’re wondering: no, demand is still far from being met!
Other highlights this week include:
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons will reach the 4.5 million units milestone next week. And that’s not counting digital sales! Sales currently stand at 4 480 117 units;
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will reach the 3 million units milestone sometime in June. Sales currently stand at 2 946 455 units;
- Splatoon 2 will reach the 3.5 million units milestone within the next few week. Sales currently stand at 3 417 239 units;
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will reach the 3.7 million units milestone next week. Sales currently stand at 3 697 918 units.

Famitsu – Hardware
This week, Nintendo Switch sales are a bit on the low side, with 38 380 units sold. Shortages are in full force (impacting both models, not just the OG one), with lotteries the only way to get a console in Japan at the moment. But despite those, sales are STILL up Year on Year: the console sold 32 564 units during the same week last year.
This year, the Nintendo Switch has already sold well over 2 million units (2 211 126 units to be precise), and the next million should come within the next few months (when exactly depends on when shortages end). The gap between 2020 and 2019 sales is nearly a million, and at this rate, it seems unlikely 2020 will not end as the peak year for the console.
LTD sales now stand at 13 594 557 units sold, with 2 214 996 units for the Lite model, and 11 379 561 units for the OG model.
As for the Nintendo 3DS, sales are about to drop below 4 digital again, with only 1 028 units sold (vs. 1 711 units sold the previous week, and 2 529 units sold last year during the same week). YTD sales now stand at 25 819 units sold (vs. 114 920 units last year after the same amount of weeks), and LTD sales at 24 521 966 units.
