Japan: more sales data for Week 17 2019, April 2019 (Media Create, Dengeki)
Here’s the latest sales data reports from Media Create and Dengeki!
Media Create – Day 1 Sell-through (Week 18)
Unfortunately, no data this week due to the Golden Week.
Dengeki (Week 17)
Dengeki report that Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age sold about 18 000 units at launch, closely followed by Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization Deluxe Edition with 17 000 units. As for Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, it’s lagging behind with 10 000 units sold. And that’s pretty much it for new entries in the Top 20, largely dominated by Nintendo Switch titles.
Other new entries in the Top 50 Software include:
- [NSW] Starlink: Battle for Atlas (Ubisoft): 3 711 units
- [NSW] Satsujin Tantei: Jack the Ripper (Nippon Ichi Software): 2 013 units (compared to 1 920 units on PlayStation 4)
- [NSW] Cytus α (Flyhigh Works): 1 980 units
- [NSW] Umihara Kawase Fresh! (Success): 1 231 units
- [NSW] La Reine des Fleurs for Nintendo Switch (Idea Factory): 1 200 units
During Week 17, both Hardware and Software sales increased:
- Hardware: 65 000 units (+18.6%)
- Software: 405 000 units (+76.6%)
This week, Dengeki also share data for April 2019 (April 1st to April 29th), which was a pretty average month overall. Hardware sales are flat, but Software sales are down by a large amount:
- Hardware: 250 000 units (-0.5% Year on Year) / 7.7 billion Yen (+6.1% Year on Year)
- Software: 1 290 000 units (-20.5%) / 8.4 billion Yen (-18.9% Year on Year)
- Total: 16.1 billion yen (-8.6% Year on Year)
In April, it’s clearly Software that dragged the market down, as Hardware sales were basically flat
For May, Dengeki hope that the market will recover, which is not going to be easy as May is a really slow period for the video games market in Japan (it will all depend on how good the Golden Week is).
