Japan – Media Create sales for Week 27, 2015 (June 29 – July 5) [Top 50]

During Week 27, only two games came out in Japan, and only one of them managed to get into Media Create’s Top 20 for that week… but none of them was for either of the two current Nintendo platforms. Therefore, there isn’t anything really special to note this week, with the exception of sales for  Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Conquest, Rhythm Heaven: The Best+ and Splatoon.

After a great launch (the best for the series), Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Conquest had a worse second week compared to Fire Emblem Awakening, with “only” 54 896 units sold (-79%). However, the difference isn’t all that great: less than 6 000 units.

The latest entry in the Fire Emblem series is still way ahead of Fire Emblem Awakening, with a total of at least 358 652 units sold at retail (including the Limited Edition). At this rate, it shouldn’t have any trouble selling at least 500 000 units when all is said and done, unless sales significantly drop in the next few weeks/months.

As for Rhythm Heaven: The Best+, it’s selling at healthy pace with 34 467 additional copies sold this week. As for Splatoon, the stamina of the Inklings is quite remarkable: there is now 34 134 more squids in Japan compared to Week 26. With 382 175 copies sold since launch, the game will reach the 400 000 units milestone next week, and the 500 000 units one before the end of summer (as the school holidays are bound to boost sales).

Hardware-wise, there’s nothing really special to note. The Nintendo 3DS sales are down compared to last week (when they were boosted by the release of Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Conquest, along with the special New Nintendo 3DS bundle). That being said, sales are still stable compared to the same week in 2014, though the difference with last year’s YTD is as big as ever.

As for the Wii U, sales are slowly going down week after week, but the console is still above the 10 000 units/week threshold. It’s still up Year on Year, and in a couple of weeks, it might even beat last year’s YTD (total sales for the current year). It will all depend on sales during the Summer holidays, which are generally favorable to family-friendly systems and games.
