Japan – Media Create sales for Week 24, 2015 (June 8 – 14) [Top 50]

During Week 24, two games came out on Nintendo 3DS, and both had pretty satisfying debuts. The first one is Rhythm Heaven: The Best+, with 157 951 units sold during the first four days. The game was almost sold out according to Famitsu, which reports a sell-through ratio of 80-100%, despite a slow start for pre-orders. Of course, the game is expected to keep selling pretty well throughout Summer.

Next, there’s Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden, which is #2 with 74 660 units sold during the first week. According to Famitsu, the sell-through isn’t too hot (somewhere between 40% and 60%), but with the new Dragon Ball Z TV Series starting in July, the game should keep on selling steadily throughout Summer.

As for Splatoon, it remains as popular as ever… maybe a bit too much, as many stores are frequently running out of copies. This week, 53 198 additional units were sold, which brings the total to 266 929 units since launch… and this is most likely just the beginning. As for the rest of the Top 20, it’s dominated by the Nintendo 3DS.

Hardware-wise, the Nintendo 3DS is back as the best-selling platform in Japan with 25 772 units sold (which is slightly less than last year during the same week). This rise in sales is obviously due to the release of Rhtyhm Heaven: The Best +, but also of the new colours for the New Nintendo 3DS XL (Pearl White).

As for the Wii U, its sales are actually down week on week (16 413 units vs 21 169 units), but it’s still better than last year during the same period. Apparently, Splatoon is still having some positive effect on sales, with users interested in the game and who end up buying the console even if they can’t find the game right away.
