Humble Nindie Bundle available in the Americas, statement about region-locking

Humble Bundle is a series of special bundles, where the buyer is free pay whatever they want. But that’s not all: the revenue generated from the sales of bundles are split between the developers/creators, the Humble Bundle operators, and several charities (Child’s Play, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, charity: water, and the American Red Cross). In fact, the buyer is free to set the revenue split between these groups.

And this week, the very first Humble Nindie Bundle was launched, and contains games for both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS:

– Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (Wii U)
Woah Dave! (Nintendo 3DS)
– Mighty Switch Force! (Nintendo 3DS)
– Stealth Inc. 2 (Wii U) [If you pay at least 10$]
– SteamWorld Dig (Nintendo 3DS / Wii U) [If you pay at least 10$]
– The Fall (Wii U) [If you pay more than the average, 9.24$]
– OlliOlli (Wii U / Nintendo 3DS) [If you pay more than the average, 9.24$]
– Moon Chronicles: Episode 1 (Nintendo 3DS) [If you pay more than the average, 9.24$]

Right now, over 44 535 bundles have been sold, though we don’t know how much money was given.

Unfortunately, this Humble Nindie Bundle isn’t available for players outside North America, Central America and South America. In a blog post, Humble Bundle explained that their original goal was to make games as accessible as possible, which is why they’re selling bundles for platforms with DRM and/or region-locked.

While they’re always striving to sell DRM-free and region-free games, selling bundles on platforms such as the Nintendo eShop allows them to reach more people. Staff at Nintendo of America actually tried to get a region-free bundle, but they weren’t able to get one (most likely because of Nintendo Co. Ltd, in Japan).
