France: Pokémon Sun and Moon sell over 800 000 units in 2016, Yo-kai Watch in Top 20 (All-Format)

In Japan, we get sales data for video game consoles and games on a weekly basis, thanks to Media Create, Famitsu, and Dengeki. But in the rest of the world, it’s a different matter: we do get charts on a (more or less) regular basis, but rarely official data from the various tracking companies (NPD, Gfk). And today, S.E.L.L. (French equivalent of the ESA) shared some sales data, and more precisely the Top 20 (All-Format) for France.

NB: sales data below do not include digital sales, or bundled sales.

Thanks to that data, we find out that Pokémon Sun and Moon sold 805 390 units in France in 2016 (both versions combined), which is pretty impressive. It’s only a matter of weeks until sales top 1 million units!

Yo-kai Watch also sold pretty well: it was the 15th best-selling game in 2016, with 222 218 units sold. Since it sold about 700 000 units in Europe (according to Nintendo), that means that almost 1/3 of total sales in that region come from France… not bad, especially compared to Pokémon Sun and Moon (which has been breaking records left and right).

As for multiplatform titles, we have Minecraft at #7 with 321 357 units sold. Unfortunately, we don’t know how many units were sold on Wii U specifically (as the Top 20 below combines all the platforms for multiplatform titles). Just Dance 2017 is #16, with 216 716 units sold, and LEGO’s Marvel Avengers is #20 with 154 311 units sold.
