France: LTD sales for Nintendo consoles (Wii U / 3DS) and games (Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros.)

France is one of the best market for Nintendo in Europe. Today, we get another proof of that straight from Nintendo France with the latest LTD (Life to Date) sales numbers for the Wii U, the Nintendo 3DS, and several games.

First, let’s start with the Wii U, which has sold over 590 000 units since launch, back in November 2012. By the end of 2014, a total of 490 000 units had been sold in the country, which means that sales have topped 100 000 units during the first 6 months of 2015. Mario Mart 8 is one of the best-sellers on the platform, with over 500 000 units sold.

This means that over 4/5 of all Wii U owners also happen to own the game… definitely one of the best tie-in ratio ever for a game (0.85:1), even though Mario Kart 8 is part of a bundle. As for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, it has sold 170 000 units since launch, which is actually quite good (especially compared to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS).

As a comparison, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has sold over 330 000 units in total, but this was on a console with an installed base of 2.9 million!
