Dai Gyakuten Saiban: details on Naruhodou Ryuunosuke, footage, pics of the Limited Edition

Dai Gyakuten SaibanNaruhodou Ryuunosuke

Yesterday, Capcom uploaded first character introduction video for Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken. Unsurprisingly, they started with Naruhodou Ryuunosuke, the protagonist. Shu Takumi (Director) starts by explaining that Ryuunosuke isn’t yet an attorney at the beginning of the story, just a mere student. It’s after being involved in an incident that he decides to become one.

Naruhodou Ryuunosuke is the ancestor of Phoenix Wright (Naruhodou Ryuuichi in the Japanese version), and the game will tell us how he came to be the first attorney in the “family”. It takes place in the Meiji Era, when people used to dress quite differently compared to nowadays, but also (more importantly) when the concept of “attorney” was still new.

When designing Naruhou Ryuunosuke, the hardest part was actually… the hairstyle (while giving him the sharp look of a student was relatively easy). Shu Takumi wanted something easy to recognise from a silhouette, but during the Meiji Era, people usually had “simple” hairstyles (which simply wouldn’t do for the protagonist).

The name “Ryuunosuke” came very quickly: they took “Ryuuichi” (Japanese name for Phoenix Wright), began to make a list of names they could use, and Ryuunosuke was the first one they came up with (and it’s the one they kept). The concept for this character was: “How would Phoenix Wright / Naruhodou Ryuuichi talk and act if he lived in the Meiji Era’.

However, he’s not yet a proper attorney, so he’s inexperienced and get easily nervous: this adds to the character and the setting, according to the developers.
