Real Escape Game now available on Nintendo 3DS (eShop), in Japan

A few minutes ago, Nintendo released a surprise game on the Nintendo eShop of the 3DS, in Japan. Called Real Dasshutsu Game × Nintendo 3DS Chou Hakai Keikaku Kara no Dasshutsu (lit: Real Escape Game x Nintendo 3DS: Escape from the Plan of Mega Destruction), it was made in collaboration with SCRAP.

SCRAP is a company known for Real Escape Games: special attractions where visitors have to solve various puzzles in order to escape. They have been quite popular in the past few years in Japan, as Attack on Titan and Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken got one (with another starting later this year) got one.

Here’s a video explaining what those “Real Escape Game” are:

The premise of this Nintendo 3DS game is simple (but a bit terrifying at the same time): someone has managed to activate a bomb in all of the 50+ million Nintendo 3DS consoles all over the world, and you have to find a way to prevent yours to explode. To do so, you will have to solve various puzzles, and apparently, you do so online with other players (as if you were physically with them, just like in an actual Real Escape Game).

The game will have several “episodes” in the coming weeks:

– Episode 1: September 2nd, free until September 30th (then 100 Yen)
– Episode 2: September 5th
– Episode 3: September 12th
– Episode 4: September 19th
– Episode 5: September 26th

Each episode will be sold 450 Yen separately. The game itself requires 1 023 blocks on your SD card, and can be downloaded for free by scanning the QR Code below (Japanese Nintendo 3DS only!).

Unfortunately, it’s quite unlikely this game will ever make it outside Japan…
