Xenoblade Chronicles X: Survival Guide 1 (New Los Angeles, B.L.A.D.E., quests)

Xenoblade Chronicles XXenoblade Chronicles X is coming out on December 4th in Europe and North America, and to prepare for this long-awaited release, Nintendo has launched a series of “Survival Guide” videos. In those, the various elements from the game will be introduced, so that players can prepare themselves in order to save Humanity, stranded on Planet Mira.

In the first episode, the focus is on New Los Angeles, and the quests. New Los Angeles is based on the actual city of Los Angeles, and is composed of four districts:

  • Commercial district, with cafés, restaurants, general stores and more;
  • Residential district, with a church, parks, and more;
  • Industrial, with factories for food, weapons, and Skells, but also a character named Doug;
  • B.L.A.D.E. district, with the B.L.A.D.E. HQ, shops for equipment, but also a place to park your Skell, customise the B.L.A.D.E. barracks and more. There, you can also find the mission board, recruit characters and more.

B.L.A.D.E (Builders of the Legacy After the Destruction of Earth) is a military organisation tasked with securing various areas of Planet Mira, but also maintain civil order, rescue survivors and more. It’s composed of 8 divisions:

  • Pathfinders: they take care of data probe installation and reconnaissance. If you join them, you can increase HP recovery.
  • Interceptors: they are tasked with defeating indigenous species. If you join them, you can increase damage from ranged weapons.
  • Harriers: their mission? Felling indigents and tyrants. If you join them, you can increase damage from melee weapons.
  • Reclaimers: they take care of Treasure Boxes recovery and data probe installation across Planet Mira. If you join them, you will have a higher change of getting items from enemies.
  • Curators: they explore Planet Mira in order to collect items and slay tyrants. If you join then, you can increase the rate of critical hits.
  • Prospectors: they are tasked with collecting ressources while scouting locations. If you join them, you can decrease the amount of damage taken while in battle.
  • Outfitters: they invest in Miranium and arm manufacturers. Joining them allows you to increase your amount of commercial points.
  • Mediators: they are focused on quest completion. If you join them, you will be able to earn tension points while using Arts (usually, you only get them while using auto attack).

Next, the video focuses on quests, that you can get from various individuals across Mira. There’s four different types of quests:

  • Story Missions: the most important mission, which allow you to progress through the story, but also work toward obtaining your Skell licence.
    In total, there’s dozens of Story missions, divided in several chapters. Most of them have multiple requirements (such as exploring the planet or completing specific Affinity missions), which need to be met in order to unlock new Story missions. For some of the Story missions, you have to be accompanied by certain party members, who need to be experienced enough to join you. To take on Story missions, follow the red icon in the B.L.A.D.E. barracks.
  • Affinity missions: allow you to deepen your bond with the other characters. You need to complete them in order to unlock new Story Missions. Follow the red handshake icon to take on Affinity missions.
  • Normal missions : you can take them by talking to characters with a red ? above their head, or by looking at the mission control boards to (where you can take up to 20 quests at the same time). They provide background info on Planet Mira and its inhabitants, but they are also a quick way to get cash. Thanks to those, you can unlock an option for redesigning your character.

Finally, the video gives some useful tips. In order to find your way on Planet Mirai, you can follow the Golden Arrow on the mini-map, or use the Follow Ball. If you seen an area flashing in yellow on the mini-map, that’s good news: it’s where you need to go to complete your current quest. Monsters with a green ! above their head are those you need to get rid of for one of your quests.

If you want, you can head to Menu > Mission in order to change your navigation target, and focus on another quest. Of course, you can complete quests in any order, and you’re not forced to focus on one in particular.
