Yoshi’s Woolly World: regular amiibo to unlock special designs for Yoshi

In Yoshi’s Woolly World, you can unlock special designs for Yoshi by collecting the Wonder Wools scattered around the various levels of the game. But it turns out you will also be able to get special designs by scanning regular amiibo: this “secret” feature is mentionned on the packaging of the game.

This feature works the same way as the Mii Suits in Mario Kart 8: by scanning an amiibo, you get a special design for Yoshi based on that character. The packaging confirms that the following amiibo are compatible: Mario, Peach and Luigi (plus some additional figures). Unfortunately, there’s no picture of the Yoshi designs on the box, and we will have to wait for an official announcement from Nintendo before we can see what Peach-Yoshi looks like!

The packaging of Yoshi’s Woolly World also gives more details about what the Yoshi amiibo do (a feature revealed during the April 1st/2nd Nintendo Direct):

– the Yarn Yoshi amiibo allows you to play with Double Yoshi (by summoning a second Yoshi), and save a Yoshi design [read / write]
– the Yoshi amiibo (Super Smash Bros. series / Super Mario Bros. series) also allows you to play with Double Yoshi.

Yoshi’s Woolly World (Wii U) comes out on June 25th in Australia (instead of June 27th!), June 26th in Europe, and later this year in Japan and North America.
